Pawsitive Results: Coco Coughlin
Coco is a healthy and active, 11-year-old, mixed-breed dog. In December of 2017, she injured her back jumping off of the bed and suffered from three collapsed discs. Initially, she responded to prednisone and pain medications prescribed by her regular veterinarian. But a month later, Coco reinjured herself and was so weak in her hind legs that she couldn’t walk at all. She was also in a tremendous amount of pain and cried whenever she attempted to move or was touched. It was at this point that I was called to treat her.
Initially, the modalities I used for Coco included acupuncture, Chinese herbals, ToeGrips and rehabilitation exercises. Within 48 hours, Coco was starting to walk again and the pain was drastically diminished. Four days after the initial visit, she received another acupuncture treatment. The herbals and rehabilitation exercises were continued as prescribed. Treatments continued weekly, and great strides were made in her recovery. When her progress slowed down a bit, we added the Assisi Loop to her treatment protocol.
Once a person or animal suffers from a spinal injury, they are always considered a “spinal injury patient.” To this day, Coco continues to receive acupuncture and laser therapy, on an as-needed basis. She has been able to return to her active lifestyle with few restrictions and has a high quality of life.
Thank you to the Coughlins for the opportunity to treat Coco. I am blessed to be able to do what I love, and love what I do!
